Steve Smith Munny

This is the newest piece in the gallery by Kwakwaka’wakw artist Steve Smith. Munny is a do-it-yourself art project created by New York company Kidrobot, founded by designer Paul Budnitz. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) acquired 13 Kidrobot toys in late 2007, which are now part of the museum’s collection. One afternoon Steve was walking in his East Vancouver neighbourhood when he came across the shop Voltage where he found the do-it-yourself toy and thought it would be great fun to paint in his style.

Steve's 'Munny' rules.
there is nobody in contemporary northwest coast doing anything as interesting as Steve Smith. I put a link from my blog to his wicked Converse All Stars.
Steve Smith is a genius. Full stop.
