Dempsey Bob Receives Order of Canada

Dempsey Bob

We would like to extend our congratulations to Tlingit/Tahltan artist Dempsey Bob for being appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada by Governor General David Johnston. This highly esteemed award recognizes his outstanding dedication to the preservation of Tahltan-Tlingit artistry as a master carver and mentor to a new generation of artists. Dempsey Bob has been carving for over forty years and his works are included in prestigious collections around the world, including UBC's Museum of Anthropology and the Smithsonian Institution. He is committed to fostering and supporting artists at the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art, where he has been a senior advisor since its inception in 2006.

Dempsey Bob joins Northwest Coast artists Earl Muldon (Gitksan), Susan Point (Coast Salish) and Walter Harris (Gitskan) in receiving an Officer of the Order of Canada appointment.

Mitch Adams

We introduced you to Haida/Tsimshian artist Mitch Adams in our recent Spring 2011 Newsletter. As a student of the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art in Terrace, Mitch is a promising new artist whose style is colourful and eclectic. While his formline design and subjects are based on art from the north of British Columbia, his composition and colours are undeniably unique.

Lattimer Gallery is currently carrying most of Mitch's prints, and they are reasonably priced since they are among his first. The image to the left depicts Mitch's 'Moon Cycle' print, which measures 7" x 30" and is available for $45.00 CAD.
