James Michels Abstract Panels

James Michels just brought in four intriguing and expertly-executed panels. Created from red cedar and measuring 18" in diameter, these panels are all abstracted. With titles 'Abstract Bear', 'Killerwhale', 'A Piece of Infinity', and 'Infinity' these panels range from subtle to bold in style. Using traditional Northwest Coast forms and colours, these panels are innovative in the way that these forms and colours are applied to the wood. James' panels range from $1,400.00 to $1,500.00.

The image at the top, to the left, is the 'Killerwhale'. Full of tension and movement, James has cropped this design to provide the viewer with a dynamic snapshot of the full whale figure. There are wonderful details in this piece: the dappling in the negative space, the three dimensional qualities of the blowhole and teeth, and the knife-finished ovoids.

The image at the bottom is his 'Infinity' panel. Again, James provides a glimpse of a larger design. Composed of ovoids, split-u's, and hints of formline, this panel is both modern and timeless.
